Modified Gastric Biopsy Forceps as a Flexible Stylet-Assisted Nasogastric Tube Insertion in Anesthetized and Intubated Patients: A Prospective Randomized Controlled Study

چکیده

Background: Insertion of a nasogastric tube in an anesthetized intubated patient may be difficult. A is prone to coil and kink during insertion. The authors hypothesized that gastric biopsy forceps could used as flexible stylet-assisted It can improve the first-attempt success rate over conventional blind technique insertion patient. Materials Methods: Eighty adult patients who required intraoperative insertions were randomized assisted (stylet group) or (control for tube. rates, duration insertion, incidences coiling kinking tube, occurrences complications recorded. Results: was 92.5% stylet group compared with 65% control (p=0.013). overall higher (100% versus 85%, p=0.026). mean time insert shorter (24.85±9.62 62.4±59.38 seconds, p=0.002). lower (7.5% 32.5%, p=0.005). incidence minor bleeding group, but not statistically significant (2.5% 17.5%, p=0.057). No other observed either groups. Conclusion: forceps-assisted resulted rate, less than without serious complications. Keywords: Nasogastric tube; Insertion; Stylet; Gastric forceps; Success

Nasogastric tube insertion in anesthetized and intubated patients: a new and reliable method

BACKGROUND The "Rusch" intubation stylet is used to make endotracheal tube intubation easy. We designed this study to evaluate the usage of this equipment in the guidance of nasogastric tube (NGT) insertion. METHODS A total of 103 patients, aged 23 to 70 years, undergoing gastrointestinal or hepatic surgeries that required intraoperative NGT insertions were enrolled into our study. The patien...

Nasogastric tube insertion using airway tube exchanger in anesthetized and intubated patients

BACKGROUND A nasogastric tube (NGT) is commonly inserted into patients undergoing abdominal surgery to decompress the stomach during or after surgery. However, for anatomic reasons, the insertion of NGTs into anesthetized and intubated patients may be challenging. We hypothesized that the use of a tube exchanger for NGT insertion could increase the success rate and reduce complications. METHO...

[Comparison of different methods of nasogastric tube insertion in anesthetized and intubated patients].

BACKGROUND Nasogastric tube insertion may be difficult in anesthetized and intubated patients with head in the neutral position. Several techniques are available for the successful insertion of nasogastric tube. The primary aim of this study was to investigate the difference in the first attempt success rate of different techniques for insertion of nasogastric tube. Secondary aim was to investi...

Nasopharyngeal tube placement in emergency intubated patients with decreased consciousness with a new guidewire: a prospective randomized controlled trial

Background: There is some demand for nasogastric tube insertion in unconscious or ICU patients. Nasogastric tubes are generally made of flexible plastic materials, prone to twisting and deviation by the tracheal tube, when passing through the pharynx and esophageal opening, making it difficult to insert the NG-tube properly. We hypothesized that NG-tube insertion with help of guidewire can sign...
